WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS This past week has been a busy and interesting week. It started on Sunday, Feb 28 with our Student reception. The day was perfect weather wise and we had an attendence of over 100 adults and students in attendance. Amy Winton presented awards to 34 students (a complete list will be our history for this week). On Monday we were blessed with a blizzard and for a couple of days we were snow bound and then it the weather turned spring like again and we are now dealing with the mud. Panhandle weather is never to be taken for boring. On Friday, I represented the museum at a meeting at Lake Fryer hosted by Carl Williamson , a historian from Miami, Texas. Purpose of meeting was for Carl to get input from the group on history for this area. He has been commissioned to write a book on our history covering topics of early ranches, Indian activities, early towns, Buffalo kills,etc.. Lance Bussard, James Coverdale, Dempsey & Kara Malaney, Scott and Lisa Brosowske were in attendance as well as representatives from Wheeler County, Ada Lester; Lubbock, Tai Kreidler (Southwest Collections, TTU), Holle Humphries (Quanah Parker Trails); Carl and Shirley Williamson, Roberts County. After the meeting the group came to our museum to examine items in our archives. The couple from Lubbock stayed over and toured Lipscomb and Ochiltree County on Saturday. It is a pleasure to tour visitors through our museum and our county, they are always surprised by our collections and the beauty of this part of the Panhandle. |
