MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

May promises to be a busy month. We have a new art exhibit being installed this week featuring the work of Vicki Schafer. Ms. Schafer has had a previous show with us when the museum was located in the Lipscomb School house so it is great to have her return for another show. We will also have a display this month by the Booker EMS to recognize and celebrate the service of the Emergency Medical Services. EMS week is May 20 thru 26 so recognize and thank your local EMS volunteers and fireman., We will host a reception honoring all county EMS and firemen volunteers on Sunday, May 20th. Plan to attend to say thanks for their service.

We had a good turnout for Bingo last Saturday and all who attended Bingoed at least one time. We all enjoyed the chatter as much as the game. Please plan to join us on the last Saturday of the month for Bingo. Mark your calendar now Saturday, May 26 at 6:30 pm.

Board meeting is next Wednesday, May 9, at 3 pm here at the museum. Public is encouraged to come and offer your input into our mission, goals and projects.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

The following is a description of the town of Lipscomb that appeared in the May 2, 1918 issue of the Limelight. It makes one wonder what was going on in the rest of the county at this time - during WWI...
"Lipscomb, though not so large as many other towns and the squeak of some old rusty tin side swinging to the breezes in the evening is not heard nor the ding-dong of the street car, yet she is on the honor roll as a peaceful town, a civil place and a patriotic one 'clear down the line' From either one place or the other in nearly every daily, some place somewhere has smeared tar and throwed the feathers on someone while others are painted yellow, etc. but there is nothing stirring in that line here. The loyalty, patriotism and everything for what is just right. It is something worth sitting up and take notice of."
