WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES
by Virginia Scott

MUSEUM NOTES

The museum is closed during the month of December so that the volunteers can rest and enjoy the holidays with the communities around us and with our families. We wish everyone the merriest of Christmas and hope each of you have a great one.

Each community has a celebration each year with the arrival of Santa Claus and the lighting of the town tree. The weather is wonderful this year so take a round trip and check out the decorations of each community. I have it on good authority that Darrouzett has some new decorations this year.

Christmas celebrations include the celebration of Jesus Christ with the telling of the Christmas story from the Bible and decorations of the manger scene. The season is also one that includes the man in the red suit. To people all over the world Christmas is a season of giving and receiving presents. He is known as Santa Claus, Father Christmas, or Saint Nicholas. He comes into the houses during the night and leaves gifts for the children. Another Character, the Norse God Odin, rode on a magical flying horse across the sky in the winter to reward people with gifts. All of these legends have been passed down to the present day Santa Claus with his flying sleigh drawn by reindeer.

Next week, I will revisit the story "Yes, Virginia there is Santa Claus". Enjoy all the parties and preparations for Christmas.
