WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS The board met on Wednesday April 10 with a majority of the board present. Reports were given on membership and the searches for equipment replacement and banking location. Each member was given the bylaws for our bi-yearly review and corrections, revision, will be submitted next meeting. The bylaws are available for public review upon request at the museum. The board approved the staff to purchase new outdoor signage that faces the highway to better advertise the building to the driving public. Discussion was held on repair of the windmill. Staff will contact the various towns that have windmills to locate repairmen. REMEMBER: Bingo is the 4th Saturday (April 27) @ 6:30 and genealogy is first Wednesday at 3pm. Both are at the meeting room of the museum. Announcement: Our county is featured on the Texas Plains Trail 52 county tour. Click here. HISTORICAL MUSINGS In the April 10th, 1919 issue of the Limelight, the editor reports the installation of the first street light in Lipscomb. He wrote the following: Today the City Garage has put one up that gives this end of town where Lime Light office is located the first and only electric street light the old burg has ever had. Now if the county would go strong enough and put one at the other three corners of the streets around the court house, the burg would sure enough look like a real live town from the Barton Hill. If some of the county dads will step down heavy enough on the right peddle, we really believe three more could be added. Have a good week. |
