WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES by Virginia Scott MUSEUM HAPPENINGS A fun Saturday night at Bingo. A nice crowd and almost everyone had a bingo. The museum was also used this weekend for a shower. It is always nice to have our facilities used by the community. It was our purpose when we designed the museum for our meeting room to be used by the county for events. So far, it has proven true. The room has served for training, anniversaries, showers, lectures, and various school activities. So remember us if you are planning an event. The room is available for a maintenance fee of $25. This week is the first Wednesday so we had our Genealogy meeting. I will report on our activity next week. Our flowers are starting to bloom so spring must be coming. HISTORICAL MUSINGS In the May 1, 1919 issue of the Limelight, the editor reported that Private Jess Wheeler of Appleby, Texas, came "in for the purpose of visiting with his Lipscomb friends for a day or two before returning to Camp Euitus, Virginia, for another years service for Uncle Sam, after which he dropped the word that he would once more appear in the old town to give the good people of this community another social call. Jess, is the second one of the boys that assisted in building the new court house, who for some reason or other has had a longing for this end of the Panhandle." the editor finished by suggesting that there were girls involved as the reason for the return visits. They did a great job and the courthouse is looking forward to the forthcoming facelift. Enjoy the spring rains ! |
