WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES
by Virginia Scott

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

Visitation is picking up and everyone is being careful. Appropriate supplies and signage is up throughout the museum so that the museum is safe and our visitors are protected as well as our volunteers.

We are staying busy with work on our archives. We will be visited by a consultant on how to rearrange our archive room with a safer storage system. Stay tuned for an update.

All our organizations are having their meetings over the computer so we can participate without leaving town. Learning the new way to communicate by computer is a challenge that I am not sure I have achieved yet.

We hope all of you are safe and have received our newsletter sent out to our membership.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

Higgins had the only hospital in the county. It was first located in the bank building on the second floor. In 1937 it was moved into a house on Main Street and later in the old Grey house. After the tornado in 1947, the government moved in a building near the Sansing and Bartons homes. Records that were found called the hospital the "Higgins Municipal Hospital". It had 26 rooms. The City of Higgins operated the hospital with Dr. Redwine in charge, until November 1, 1953. In 1955, the name of the hospital was chaged to Higgins City Hospital. In 1961, Dr. G.A. Hort operated the hospital and lived there. It is not documented when the hospital closed, if any one knows the date, please send us the information so we can update our information.

Have a good week and stay safe.
