WOLF CREEK HERITAGE MUSEUM NOTES

MUSEUM HAPPENINGS

Another quiet week that has allowed us to catch up with our various projects and take time to clean or at least organize our work areas. The student reception for the county student art show will be THIS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 23RD AT 2PM. Please plan to attend and support our students and our schools.
We are still recruiting exhibits and programs for this year so call us with your ideas and topics that you would like us to pursue.

We received confirmation from THC that they had received our annual report and that our activities for the year fulfills the CHC's statutory responsibility of reporting to their agency. The report is available for public reading if desired.

HISTORICAL MUSINGS

Since Follett is enjoying a winning Basketball season, here is some historical information on the teams:
"When basketball first started at Follett High, it was played on outdoor courts. The only team in the county to have an inside gym was Higgins, and this was also their movie theater.
The basketball players wore knee pads and elbow pads to protect them when playing on the out doors courts and at Higgins. The players had to be careful when they tried to save an out-out-bounds ball or they might run into the chairs.
The uniforms were similar to those worn today except they were long sleeved and the pants were slightly longer. Head bands that fir around and our the head held the boy's hair out of their eyes.
The coach of the 1923 team was Alex Sanders and the team consisted of seven players: Pete Travis, Bob Searcy, Chancy Buckworth, Lee Roy Cross, Albert Laubhan, Goldie Summers, and Floyd Farmer.
Their schedule of teams played included Booker, Perryton, Higgins, Shattuck, Canadian, Spearman, and Darrouzett.
Our schools have a long and enriched history of sports and excellent sportsmanship. Support your local school. Please bring or send us a current roster so you can be added to this rich history.
